You often hear the term "raw talent" applied to musicians. The term usually refers to someone who "shows great promise". In Jonny Lang's case, I think it's more about the talent of his rawness. He builds on this by contrasting high intensity with subtle softness, creating a phenominal range of dynamics. The instrumental which begins around 2:46 in the video is a great example of this ability.

Jonny has said that he's been heavily influenced by Motown and James Taylor. That may be, his voice has an unmistakable soul quality, but It has always seemed to me that Jonny's guitar has been influenced most by Buddy Guy.

Jonny began his career as a 15 year old blues guitar prodigy. He's matured and progressed as an artist and as a human being. When one listens to Jonny Lang speak, he seems soft spoken and gentle. It makes you wonder where all that raw intensity comes from. Thank God it's there.........
